Try plumbing supply for shower base

| Shower Base Fiberglass Shower: Q. The base of my fiberglass shower stall is cracking, and I’m afraid it will leak. Can it be fixed, or can it be replaced? WAYNE KUKURUZA, Quincy ___ A. Flexing shortened the life of the base. New stalls have bases with a honeycomb floor section, reducing or eliminating the flexing. If your base is separate from the stall, you might be able to find a replacement at a large plumbing-supply store. The big building-supply stores may not have replacements, because they are more inclined to sell you a whole unit, not part of one. If you find a replacement that fits, fine and dandy, but the big problem is to get the old one out and the new one in. It may be impractical to do so, but is still worth a try. And, if you find a replacement, it might be the same as the old one that will continue to flex. To prevent that, slip a piece of wood under the hollow part of the base as you install it. There are companies that specialize in repairing fiberglass stalls, tubs and other fixtures, but they can be somewhat expensive. If you can’t find a replacement, or can’t get the old base out, repair might be the way to go.:Plumbing Supply |
